Here’s what some pupils at Cobham Free School had to say…

The session was incredibly engaging, and I particularly enjoyed the legal case discussions on fault and blame. Working through real-life scenarios made the material come alive and helped me understand how laws apply to everyday situations. One key takeaway for me was learning that there are aggravating and mitigating factors, which can reduce or increase the severity of a sentence,
e.g. using violence is an aggravating factor and showing regret is a mitigating factor. This gave me a deeper understanding of how laws can be adapted to each situation, remaining fair and just. A unique aspect of the workshop was that we engaged in our own debates in front of the group, which made the experience both challenging and exciting. Presenting our arguments publicly made the session more impactful as it helped us to build confidence, sharpen our speaking skills, and understand different perspectives by debating real issues together. Overall, I left with a greater understanding of the legal field and a new curiosity about how it shapes our society.

I really enjoyed all the activities and how there were quizzes and rewards and you don’t just sit there and listen, I learned a lot from it, in fact I was at a sleepover where I corrected someone after remembering something that was said in the workshop. It was different / unique as it really got you involved unlike other workshops where you just sit and listen. I took home a lot of new information about law and as I want to be a politician it was very useful.

The law workshop was incredibly fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly and I learnt a lot. As someone who is looking to go into the field of law I learnt a lot about the common misconceptions with the field of law  as well as the various ways of getting into the field. Not only through taking the degree course but also by entering through apprenticeships schemes and other degrees and the different examination styles. What made the session soo unique was the interactive teaching session and engagement between students and the leader of the talk.
